This Southern Florida State Park Is The Perfect Home Base For Your RV Adventure

Taking an RV road trip to the Florida Keys might not seem like an activity and destination that match up seamlessly at first glance. The good news is that they go perfectly hand-in-hand when you set your sights on places like Curry Hammock State Park. There are just under 1,200 RV parks, resorts, and designated campgrounds for travelers to enjoy across the entire state of Florida. However, when the Florida Keys is your final destination, Curry Hammock State Park has an array of features that can elevate your stay beyond what a typical RV park might provide.

Curry Hammock State Park sits within the Middle Keys and is frequently credited for feeling refreshingly less crowded than other state parks in the area, like Bahia Honda or Pennenkamp. At Curry Hammock State Park, RV travelers can count on enjoying a relaxed getaway vibe and surroundings that showcase a unique look at untouched natural beauty that's sure to inspire. The park is home to a small, inviting beach sprawling across just 1,200 feet of terrain along the Atlantic. Many visitors use this charming shoreline for sunbathing, snorkeling, kayaking, and kiteboarding. It's an inviting place to enjoy a beach picnic with the entire family, thanks to the pavilion and nearby playground.

Activities to enhance your Florida Keys RV experience

Curry Hammock State Park is easy to access thanks to its great location on the Overseas Highway in Marathon, Florida. While the RV parking sites are scenic, spacious, and convenient, there's a good chance the multitude of activities available to enjoy will have you out exploring most of the time. If you love to pedal or paddle your way through a sunny afternoon, the option to rent kayaks, bikes, and stand-up paddleboards at the park ranger station is a highlight.

Once you have your gear, the park's easy-to-use kayak launch will have you on the water in no time. If you're looking to pair your kayaking with fishing, you'll find snapper and snook are typically biting in the channel, while the flats host a plethora of bonefish year-round. When you're back on land, you'll have easy access to the Overseas Heritage Trail, which is bike and pedestrian-friendly. While you'll only conquer a portion of the trail in Curry Hammock State Park, in its entirety, the route covers more than 90 miles of land running between Key Largo and Key West.

The Curry Hammock State Park landscapes showcase a collection of tropical hardwood hammock forests. These provide important habitats for incredible creatures and thrilling wildlife-watching for guests. The area is rich in year-round shorebirds and migratory species you can observe during your stay. From the shoreline, there's also a good chance you'll spot dolphins, manatees, sharks, and stingrays in the water.
